The government is insisting on smaller, fuel-efficient cars, so the industry is making them nicer and more expensive.

This is what you get when the government takes over any activity.  What would a stamp cost if UPS/FedEx ran the post office?  I’m reminded of the bumper sticker “If you think healthcare is expensive now, just wait ’till it’s free”.

BTW, Australia is accepting competent, useful people.

Well, not quite yet. But among corporate customers, the future is beginning to look very uncertain.

Well, what goes around comes around.  How many thousands of “pc support” jobs will go away? It’s not just the software support jobs – what corporation will pay $20/hr for dozens of people to fix desktop pcs when a new one costs less than $200.  When your pc breaks, and they break very seldom these days, you’ll be told to walk down to the supply room and get a new one, plug it in and drink a cup of coffee while it connects to the server(s).

For many cube-rats, the worst of this is ABSOLUTE control over software and network access – sorry guys, no more surfing porn and playing fantasy sports.
